報じている。
要約すると、過去３年間カナダの独走だったが、新たに設立されたＥｐｓｏｎカップでは、カナダが５戦
全敗の最下位、一方、過去３年間最下位を低迷していた日本は、予想屋と自らを驚かす、僅か１敗
の成績で１９９９年度のエプソンカップを制し、スｔｓンドオフ（Ｆｌｙ−はｌｆ）の廣瀬は１試合９ペナルティー
世界記録を樹立、日本の勝利には、外国籍選手が大いに貢献した。と報じている。

time, Canada basked in solitary splendour.This year,in the underwritten and reconfigured　 by the
Internationa Rugby Board Epson-sponsored tournament, Canada lost all five games and ended with
wooden spoon. Japan on the other hand ,wallowing at the bottom of the table, or near the
bottom, for the past thee years,suprised the odds-makers, and suprised themselves, by losing only
one game and winning the 1999 Epson Cup.　- 中略-　Fly-half Keiji Hirose-the tournament's
top scorer with 90 points-scored a Japanease record 34 points, and set a new world record with

that caused wags to dub Japan the 'Cherry Blacks' instead of the Cherry Blossoms.
Foreign-born players,boasting three years residence, are not new to the Japan team;indeed,Kiwi
Andrew McCormick-Fergi's son- is the current captain. The addition of former All Black
